Department of Orthopedic Surgery

Introduction of the department

Dr. Motoo Harada was assigned as the first professor on August 31, 1949, and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery started on September 26 of the same year in Wakayama Medical University. Five years later, it was inherited by Dr. Tadashi Nakagawa on March 31, 1956. Dr. Yoshimune Shima was assigned on April 16, 1964 and basic and clinical studies related to bone and joint infectious diseases, joint surgery, spine surgery, prosthetics and orthotics, and rehabilitation were actively performed. Professor Tetsuya Tamaki, who was assigned on August 1st, 1986, performed advanced research and technological development in a wide range of fields including electrophysiology and molecular biology and his emphasis was to consider the importance of community medicine, to give results in advanced medicine, and to maintain an attitude to learn with sufficient consideration for sick people. All current members and alumni unite and make an effort to contribute to the development of the department.
