Our department consists of the thoracic division and the cardiovascular division.

The cardiovascular surgery division

As the largest cardiovascular center in the prefecture, we provide comprehensive cardiovascular surgical services for patients in all over Wakayama. Our team consists of congenital and adult cardiovascular surgery. The congenital cardiovascular team performs surgical care for children including neonates and infants and young adults. The adult cardiovascular team performs acquired cardiac, aortic and peripheral vascular surgery. Currently we perform 400 operations per year.

The thoracic surgery division

One of our goals is to apply the latest medical technology to clinical treatment. The outcome of chemotherapy based on the histoculture drug response assay in our division, in particularly, is outstanding. We aggressively perform minimally invasive endoscopic surgery. More than 50% of chest operations in our unit are performed with endoscopy. Since 2000, we perform sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer surgery. Currently we perform 450 operations per year.
